The Timeless It Girl: A Timeline of Bella Hadid’s Public Appearances in Vintage clothing Bought from Timeless Wear
Sporty, sexy, sleek, unexpected…who else’s style could we possibly be describing other than the style icon of our generation: Miss Bella Hadid. Bella’s off-duty style encapsulates the nostalgia for the early 2000s gen Z feels, living out the looks of our childhood fantasies. Y2k vintage style is influenced by iconic films of the era, from teen comedies like Cheetah Girls and The Hot Chick to the more grown up styles of The Devil Wears Prada. Some of the looks from these films border on the ridiculous, which we love. They are are individual, experimental and iconic – which we firmly believe can’t be achieved wearing the ultra-palettable, watered down and mass produced pieces from fast fashion labels today, not to mention how unsustainable these brands are. Self-styled Bella always dresses up for the full fantasy of whatever she’s doing, from the ultimate Downtown NYC girl to fully athletic looks ready for courtside. December 2020
Where it all began … Bella stepped out in the snow in a pair of rather familiar Miss Sixty low waist flares, complete with zip details up the back. She paired them with a vintage faux fur jacket and top, pearl jewellery and a 90s spiky up-do. Bella looked cute in the cold, but hopefully the bottom of the jeans didn’t get too wet …
March 2021
A few months later, Bella is spotted at the Boss x Russell Athletic Fashion Show in a red Miss Sixty crop top which we know we sold one of to an NYC address the year before. Playing into the college theme of the show, the top is a sexy take on University sportswear, paired perfectly with the shoe that then became the trending trainer of 2022, Adidas Sambas. At this point, Timeless founder Amber jokingly suggested it could have been from her Depop. Then she realised the jeans Bella had worn in December had been from the same bundle…could the gen Z queen really be wearing multiple pieces from Timeless?
April 2021
OK they were definitely from us! In April, Bella graced us with yet another instagram post in a look with pieces from us. This time: a pink tailored shirt with a ring detail worn on a night out for a friend’s birthday. A gorgeous example of pairing unexpected items together to create a unique look, she styled the smart shirt with baggy low rise jeans, thong straps to the heavens, and her signature layered vintage jewellery. We love the combo of the hot pink with the stacked gold bangles.
January 2022
Fast forward to the start of last year, just when we were thinking the bundle could have been a one off. Bella posted an Instagram story looking stunning in an orange cami, one of our faves from the store. Where we paired them with cargos on the original Depop listing, Bella went down a similar route and wore it with black parachute pants, adding chunky silver rings and a bejewelled beanie from Verconiik, in collaboration with Brandon Hurtado.
Just a few weeks later, Bella posted a Tiktok looking stunning in a stripy cropped Guess hoodie from us, which she paired with brown yoga pants, chunky rings and a headband. Amber loved this piece so much when she bought it that she actually kept it in her own wardrobe for six months before listing it. We love Bella’s look here, but it wouldn’t be until a few months later when she re-styled the piece for a street style moment that the hoodie went viral.
Towards the end of the month, Bella was spotted in one of her most iconic Timeless looks to date, wearing low waist Nike trousers sourced by us from a market in Rome. She paired them with a simple black crop top, which showed off her toned stomach, Air Maxes and early 2000s accessories. We’ve never seen someone look so sleek pumping their gas, and Pinterest users certainly agreed – the images quickly went viral. They can all thank Amber for deciding to list these after she was so tempted to keep them for herself.
May 2022
A refreshing change from the celebrity obsession with never repeating pieces from your wardrobe, Bella was spotted again in the Nike trousers. Equally cute and casual, this time she wore them with a vintage levi cropped sweatshirt, a simple tote bag and New Balances. Love.
June 2022
The Queen of street style, Bella was seen out and about in NYC the Guess hoodie once again. . She looked so cute and comfy wearing it with white linen boxers on her coffee run. After the viral success of the Nike Trousers, images of Bella in this adorable piece have lead to the first dupes being made of Timeless Wear stock. Cheap copies of this design can now be found by fast fashion brands, some of which are charging almost double what we did for a low quality rip off of the style. Not only does this completely go against the sustainability of shopping vintage, but also the appeal of finding items that no one else is going to have.
August 2022
At the height of last summer, Bella attended the US open in yet more Timeless Wear, this time a pair of boyfriend jeans with leather pocket details. She found a perfectly matching denim corset and a repurposed white shirt as a jacket, completing the look with a can of Kin Euphoric, her own non-alcoholic beverage.
October 2022
Bella wore her first full Timeless outfit to the Knicks’ first home game of the 2022-23 season at Madison Square Gardens. She put together two Miss Sixty pieces from our store: a Killah sporty cami with an orange bow and a camo midi skirt with orange panels. We love when Bella fully commits to the fantasy appropriate for the event; the Daily Mail even mis-reported that she was wearing basketball shorts. She sat with fellow style icon Chloe Sevigny, who wore an equally sporty chic look. Bella’s outfit had mixed reactions from the internet, which in our book means you’re doing something absolutely right, experimenting and creating iconic and unforgettable looks that the keyboard warriors could never dream of putting together. Obviously, we’re obsessed.
Later in the month, Bella was spotted once again in a full Timeless fit. Dirt biking in the desert (presumably on the same trip as when she attended the Fashion Trust Arabia Prize ceremony) Bella gave us a fresh spin on Biker chic. Although she wore more classically biker style chunky boots with it, her top and skirt were more 2000s-does-70s style, a perfect example of how Y2k encapsulates a mishmash of styles from all eras. She layered up vintage necklaces on top (reportedly including vintage Chanel), added chunky gold bangles and topped off the look with an orange biker helmet to match her top. How she looks so ethereally gorgeous whilst standing up on a dirt bike hurtling through the desert we will never know, but we would like an invite to the next adventure, please.
January 2023
Coming into the new year Bella is showing no signs of slowing down on the Timeless wardrobe. This time on holiday in the Cayman Islands with her creative director boyfriend Marc Kalman, Bella looked stunning in a vintage Italian bikini from Miss Ribellina. We love this piece as with the smiley-faced flowers and bright primary colours we think its a great example of the nostalgic element of y2k vintage. She kickstarted her adrenaline once again, looking hot hot hot on a jet ski, before chilling out at her hotel and pairing the swimsuit with a pair of cargo shorts and an oversized bag. Slay.
And finally, Bella’s most recently worn Timeless piece: a red corduroy midi skirt, which she paired with a vintage top and Miu Miu ballet flats. Bella just looked so iconic in this look, topped off with a spiked fringe and silver y2k cyber makeup.
